The sallet, also called a salade, was a war helmet that replaced the bascinet in northern Europe during the mid-15th century. Our North Italian Sallet Helm is close fitting, except at the back of the head where it extends to form a pointed tail. This sallet helm has a continuous occularia or eye slit in the visor. Forged from 18-gauge steel.
It is unlined but comes with a padded arming cap that can be inserted. It has an integrated leather chin strap with brass buckle to keep the helm firmly affixed in the wild melee of combat.
